Theatre

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more...

For as long as I can remember I have always been a goof. In sixth grade I began acting in school plays and very quickly became "that silly kid" who took every comedic role I was offered. Making people laugh is one of my natural necessities so I strived to act in as many comedies as possible. This kept me quite satisfied throughout middle school but as high school came around, I took it upon myself to begin writing dramatic roles for myself so I could stretch my legs creatively. After acting in a few of my own works at playwright festivals, I was lucky enough to have my first play published when I was 18 years old.

I continued into Theatre Arts at California State University, Northridge and learned about all aspects of the craft. I had classes in set design/construction, makeup, props, costume design, and of course writing and acting. I worked numerous jobs in numerous plays and as much as I loved behind the scenes work, writing and acting remained my favorites. In my senior year of college, I landed the role of Angelo in Shakespeare’s A Comedy of Errors and was nominated for the Irene Ryan Acting award from The Kennedy Center. Off the back of that performance, I was hired at the Independent Shakespeare Company in LA (iscla.org) and quickly started acting for them after receiving my Bachelor's degree in Theatre Arts at CSUN.

During my time with ISC, I acted in plays such as Two Gentleman of Verona, Our American Cousin, Othello, Much Ado About Nothing, and more. Performances were done in Hollywood and Griffith Park where we would do Shakespeare in the Park every summer and sometimes have close to a thousand people attend our performances.

After leaving the theatre to pursue computer science, I went back to playwrighting knowing it didn't require attending daily rehearsals like acting and could still satisfy my withdrawals caused by being away from the stage. I had two comedic, one-act plays produced and performed in Hollywood in 2013 (Desperate Desires) and 2015 (Wild Cards) as part of a yearly, 1940's noir festival. The plays were well received by critics & audiences and eventually published in several noir collections. I continue to write during my computer science endeavors to this day.
